Recovery of the ozone layer
Due to the ban of ozone depleting substances such as CFCs from spray cans, the ozone layer is expected to recover throughout the 21st century. However, changes in the middle-atmosphere circulation may critically interfere with the ozone recovery.
There is a need to better understand the interaction of atmospheric circulation and the recovery of the ozone layer in a changing climate. CAIRT will provide the urgently needed observations on atmospheric circulation together with observations of ozone and key halogen and nitrogen species.
